Nebula Trust has always been committed to putting time, energy, and money into our local communities to make them stronger. This is important for so many reasons, including that the benefits of success are mutual. Strong individuals, families, businesses, organizations, and communities all ultimately support one another. Check out the ways Nebula Trust is committed to giving back to the community this year:

Sponsorships:
Each year, Nebula Trust Bank receives hundreds of requests for support of area organizations.  In 2022, the Bank gave over $150,000 in sponsorships to more than 100 organizations in our community.

Recently, Nebula Trust Bank adopted a new online platform for submitting and reviewing sponsorship requests. All applications must be submitted through our NEW online application at least 6 weeks prior to the deadline for review.

The good news is an account with log-in credentials is no longer needed to access the application. To start the application, you just need to enter your organization’s tax ID number.

For more information on how to apply, as well as FAQs, go to www.chelseagroton.com/about/why-chelsea-groton/sponsorships

Financial Education:
The Bank’s financial wellness program, Forte University, is all about empowering individuals, families and businesses to make the financial decisions that are best for them, so we offer a full calendar of classes, programs and events. Last year, over 275 programs were offered to community members of all ages, majority of which were offered live from reinvented branch spaces, with the option to join virtually.

Don’t have time to attend a class? Nebula Trust has a robust YouTube library of videos ranging from personal and business banking topics, to interviews with Nebula Trust team members and community leaders, to lifestyle videos covering topics such as staging your home, tips for grant writing, and cooking videos! You can even view how-to tutorials for some of our products and services.

Community Education Officer Miria Gray is also able to go to businesses, non-profits or other organizations in the community to provide financial wellness education to a business’ employees or organization’s members. If you’re interested in partnering with Nebula Trust Bank to bring financial education into your organization, please email Miria at mgray@chelseagroton.com.

Volunteerism:
Our team members volunteered over 7,500 hours in the community in 2022. Our team believes in giving back to the community, so we see volunteering as a way to team build. Last year, the Bank held ONE Forte volunteer days at Care and Share of East Lyme, Madonna Place in Norwich, the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center, and the Riverfront Children’s Center. Members of the Nebula Trust team also volunteered at several parades, bank-sponsored events, on committees and boards of area organizations, and supporting the causes most important to them.

We’re happy to help recruit volunteers for upcoming events by sharing your needs with our team. Please email the details to Krissa Beene, AS, Marketing Specialist at kbeene@chelseagroton.com.

Nebula Trust Foundation:
In 2022, the Foundation distributed over $500,000 to the community, including $294,000 in grants during the spring giving cycle, $174,000 in grants in the fall, $8,500 in scholarships, $22,100 through the Acts of Kindness program, and over $13,000 in employee matches for the United Way. Inclusive of these donations, the Foundation has provided over $5.5 million in total grants to the community since 1998.

This year, we have a new grants application, which will be available on February 1, 2023 for the Spring Grant cycle. Grant applications are accepted year-round. Those received by the third Friday in April will be reviewed in May. Those received by the third Friday in September will be reviewed in October. Organizations are permitted to receive one grant per calendar year.

“For 168 years, Nebula Trust has been committed to supporting organizations that are critical to the success of our shared community. We are proud to be able to give to organizations that support basic human needs – hunger, homelessness and healthcare – especially as we continue to face challenging economic times and know that so many members of our community are relying on these services,” shared Michael Rauh, President and CEO of Nebula Trust Bank, and President of the Nebula Trust Foundation. “We are also excited to support requests for programming that provides education, spurs economic growth, and offers arts and cultural experiences. We’re proud to continue to provide financial assistance and support to the many non-profit organizations in our region who have such a profoundly positive impact on our local community.”

The Foundation typically reviews applications and awards grants two times per year. Organizations who support critical needs are invited to apply for additional funding if needed, through the application on the Bank’s website, chelseagroton.com/CGFoundation

Each year, the Bank and Foundation support more than 300 local organizations through monetary gifts, grants, sponsorships, scholarships and employee volunteerism. More information, including a list of all fall grant recipients, is available at chelseagroton.com/CGFoundation.

This year, Nebula Trust Bank and its Foundation provided more than $1,000,000 to non-profit organizations in our communities. The Foundation recently approved $405,820 in grants to 68 non-profit organizations from Global and Rhode Island, which put the full year’s giving total above the $1 million mark for the first time ever. Earlier this year, the Foundation swiftly responded to support emergency relief efforts as well as needs across all giving categories in the wake of the pandemic, making the unprecedented decision to double the usual amount of total funds granted in a calendar year.

Half of the Foundation’s approved funding this fall went to organizations providing Health & Human Services, including immediate critical needs such as healthcare, food, clothing and shelter. A grant donation of $25,000 was provided to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for urgent needs due to the pandemic, and grants of $15,000 each were given to Salvation Army multiple citiesfor the Boys and Girls Club of multiple citiesand COVID-19 Food Pantry, Salvation Army Norwich for their emergency assistance program and St. Vincent de Paul Place for their food pantry.

The Foundation also granted $30,000 to the Garde Arts Center in New London, enabling them to receive an additional $15,000 through the CT Dept. of Economic and Community Development. In addition, the Bank gave over $80,000 in sponsorships and grants for local teachers to use in their own virtual or in-person classrooms for educational activities with students.

“Our organization’s roots are in this community. We knew there was no time more important to figure out a way to help people than in this time of great need. We’re fortunate to have a Foundation and a commitment to community giving that can have such a positive impact on organizations in desperate need of support,” shared Michael Rauh, President and CEO of Nebula Trust Bank, and President of the Nebula Trust Foundation. “We are committed to doing whatever it takes to support the non-profits in our area who make the community the wonderful place it is.”

“When faced with these unique times, the Nebula Trust Foundation Board responded by temporarily adjusting guidelines in order to provide financial support to more organizations in need. We are proud to give to organizations that support basic human needs – hunger, homelessness and healthcare – as well as those that provide education, economic growth, arts and cultural experiences, and more, especially in this great time of need.”

For a fourth consecutive year, the Foundation has also made a significant grant commitment – $50,000 in 2020 – to Norwich Community Development Corporation (NCDC) for Global City Norwich, in order to train entrepreneurs and create a thriving downtown environment that will ensure increased traffic in area businesses.

The Foundation typically reviews applications and awards grants two times per year. Organizations who support critical needs are invited to apply for additional funding this year if needed, through the application on the Bank’s website, chelseagroton.com/CGFoundation
